Mrs. Marie Ely Slemp, 99, died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at Colonial Hills Nursing Home, Johnson City.
A native of Dryden, Va., she had moved to Appalachia, Va., in 1956. She was the daughter of Rev. James H. and Addie Parsons Ely, of Dryden, Va.
She was a member of Ely's Memorial Methodist Church, Dryden, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther S. Slemp, in 1968; a son, James E. Slemp, in 1974; an infant daughter, Bernita Slemp; four sister s; two brothers; and four half brothers.
Surviving are a son, V.P. Slemp, Wytheville, Va.; five daughters, Mrs. Mildred Costakes, Tampa, Fla., Mrs. June Stallard, Bristol, Va., Mrs. Doris Inabnitt, Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Jane Cole, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Betty Herington, Salem, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Doug Poole and G.W. Wade officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Powell Valley Cemetery, Dryden, Va.
