Funeral services for Mrs. Lydia Cathern Sewell, 83, who passed away in a Billings rest home Tuesday, will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. from the Lowry Chapel. Death was attributed to pneumonia. She had been confined to the rest home for over three years and became critically ill about a week ago.
Lydia Cathern Barclay was born May 10, 1876, at Somerset, Ky. She was married to William Madison Sewell May 2, 1899, at Somerset. They came to Big Timber in 1915 and for a time were engaged in ranching. They resided in Laurel from 1924 to 1927 where Mr. Sewell was employed by the Northern Pacific. They later returned to Big Timber. Mr. Sewell passed away Dec. 27, 1944. Mrs. Sewell resided in Big Timber until she was no longer able to be alone when she moved to Billings and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sam Strand.
Survivors besides her daughter include one son, Robert B. Sewell of Venice, Calif., seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
