Big Timber Pioneer, August 24, 2001
Catherine Charity "Katie" Davis, 100, of Big Timber, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at the Pioneer Medical Center.
Katie passed to 100-year mark of her life on May 26, 2001.
Katie was born in Somerset, Kentucky to Andrew and Ellen (Barclay) Braughton on May 26, 1901. The family moved to Montana stayed about three years, moved back to Kentucky, and finally came back to Montana to stay in 1915. They settled on the Old Boulder Road.
Katie was the second of eight children. Her siblings were Ruby, Edith, Lloyd, Mae, Sue, Virgil, and Alma.
In 1924 Katie married Onie Davis. They had two daughters, Mary and Helen, who have both passed away.
Katie loved sewing and gardening and had sewn most of her own clothes. She was an outgoing person and when someone would ask how she was, she would say, "I'm just wheeling and dealing!" Katie took care of several different elderly ladies after Onie died and lived on her own until she entered the nursing home five years ago.
She was a member of the Big Timber Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Katie is survived by two sisters, Edith Lomeland and Ruby Person, both of big Timber; one brother Lloyd Braughton of McLeod; three grandchildren, Dennis Soldat and Katherine Soldat, both of Redmond, Washington and Kelvin Soldat of Richland, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Soldat of Richland and Lily Soldat of Redmond; two cousins, Edna Ullman and Nellie Wendland, both of Big Timber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 19 at Lowry Funeral Home. Pastor David Prest officiated. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery.
Lowry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
