Elsie married Robert Elwin Wallace on March 3, 1897 in a double wedding with her sister, Annetta in Muscotah, Kansas. They had nine children and were divorced in 1926.

Elsie and Robert moved west, stopping in several areas before settling in Idaho. In Blackfoot, Elsie owned The Home Bakery. The family joke is that they probably ate all of the profits! Later they moved to Grave Creek, Idaho.

Elsie married second Ormus Bates on August 26, 1926. They lived in Anaconda, Montana, a smelter town. She later moved to Spokanne Washington to live with her daughter Evelyn.
