Sarah Frances (Whitenack) & John Elliott Steele moved to Caldwell co, MO when young. This is where they met and married. They made Caldwell co., MO their home for several years. At the outbreak of the Civil war they moved to Wabash co., IN where they remained but a short time before moving again to Windsor Canada. John was employed as a carpenter while in Windsor. They remained there for approximately 4 years before moving back to the states. They found their new home in Salisbury-Chariton,MO. After 2 years they were once again on the move to Lawrence co.,MO in Vineyard township were they spent the remainder of their lives. John was a farmer. He and his family moved to Stotts City, MO after the Civil War. He farmed about 100 A. at his house and about 300 more across Spring River to the East.

John Elliotee Steele was born in Indiana August 28, 1827, died at his home on mile north of Stotts City March 28, 1906, age 78 years and 7 months.
He married November 10 1853 to Sarah Whitenack. To this union was born 6 children: 3 of which survived him. His sons Clem, Jeff and a married daughter.
His funeral was conducted by Elder J. F. Hargrove and the remains placed to rest in the Hoshaw Graveyard.
