Mack was my father in law. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 404 out of Mentor, Ohio. Husband of Hester and father of 4. Shirley Hurless, (husband Terry), Alonzo,(Fee), (wife, Janet), Barbara Smart, (husband, Howard) and Phillip, (wife, Billie). At the time of his death, he had 12 grandchildren.
Dad loved gardening and was excellant at it!! He would come home from work and not even come into the house, right to his garden he went.
He died only 8 months after being diagnosed with cancer, so, it may have been a swift death, but it was a tragically painful 1. We watched this big, strong man, full of laughter turn into a very thin man without any laughter at all.
His death came the same year as my own father's death, so my husband and I held on tight to each other, not knowing there would be worse years ahead, but, thinking it was the worst 1 of our lives at the time.
Mack was a wonderful man. He came to Ohio from his home in Tennessee and he is the reason I have resided in Tn. for the past 28 years. He loved this land! He loved his family and he loved life. He was taken from us way too soon, but, we never will forget this bigger than life man, I got to call dad, even just for a little while. I know he was standing at the Gates of Heaven when my husband's mama entered them yesteday afternoon. After 34 years apart, they are now together again. God Bless You Both, Mom & Dad!!
