Rochester Post (MN) April 27, 1883: DIED - WHIPPLE - At the residence of Mr. N. Holden, in this city on the 20th, instan., Mrs. Ann M., wife of Mr. J.G. Whipple, aged sixty five years, four months and four days. Mrs. Whipple was born in Pelham, Massachusetts, in 1817, and at the age of 20 years she was married with Mr. J.G. Whipple, by whom she bore seven children and with whom she has lived for upwards of 45 years. She was one of the early settlers of Olmsted County, having removed here with her family in the year 1855, Mr. Whipple taking a claim in what is known as Hadley Valley. In the year 1863, Mr. Whipple sold his claim and purchased a farm in Viola, where the family have since resided. In the year 1862, the family was visited by that dread disease, diptheria, taking three of their children in the space of one month. Two years later a son died in the Andersonville prison and on whose account the deceased mother had received a pension a few days previous to her death. The next year a married daughter was taken away by death, leaving two little girls who have been reared and cared for by their grandparents. Of their once large family, an aged mother, a husband, two children and grandchildren survive to mourn their loss.

Olmsted County Minnesota Probate Record: Heirs -- surviving husband James G. Whipple; 2 children: Daniel D. Whipple and Mary Dickerman; 2 grandchildren: (children of Ambry Gleason, a deceased daughter): Nellie Cuyle and Hattie Gleason, both of full age.
