He attended school in Eagle Point, Medford and Jacksonville. After he graduated from Jacksonville High School, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country both domestically and internationally. On June 18, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Hardy, and they were married for 50 wonderful years.
He graduated from Southern Oregon College in 1967 with a degree in mathematics, and in 1970, he received a masters degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Washington. John's career in the power generation field took him all over the United States.
John was an employee of the Salt River Project of Phoenix, Arizona working for the Arizona Nuclear Power Project (ANPP) during the late 1970s and early 1980s. John worked as manager of the Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls Group in Design Engineering during construction, startup and commerical operation of the three unit Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS). John then went on to serve as the Plant Manager for Unit 1 at Palo Verde as an Arizona Public Service (APS) employee until he retired from APS in the late 1980s.
He retired from Siemens Corporation in 2001 and moved back to his beloved Rogue Valley residing in Shady Grove at the time of his passing. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling to see his children and grandchildren, and attending services at Trail Christian Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Michelle Allen, of San Diego, Calif.; son, Sean (Cassie) Allen, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Addison and John Thomas Allen of Phoenix; and brother, Gordy (Judy) Allen, of Jacksonville, Ore.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Trail Christian Fellowship, 18881 Hwy 62, Eagle Point, OR, with Pastor Rick Booye officiating.
