Lillie Estelle Austin, age 93. a lifetime resident of this area, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 1993, at Avalon Place in Wharton. She was born in Weimar, September 13, 1899, to John and Agnes Miles Barker, one of five children. The family lived in Goldthwaite and Bay City before settling in Eagle Lake in 1919.
She was married September 21, 1920, to Sam Austin, who died in 1967.
She was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake at her death. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Carolyn Jeanette; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Avery; brothers Pervy and Clyde Barker; sister. Ruby Duve Mathis; and son-in-law. Jack Listowski.
Her survivors include her daughters, Erline Listowski and Dorothy Austin of Eagle Lake; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl W. and Judy Austin, Kenneth and Gladys Austin, Larry and Carolyn Austin, all of Eagle Lake, and Gene and Joann Austin of Santa Barbara, Ca.; sister, Ethel Burdette of Norman, Ok; grandchildren, Kathy Jankowiak of Pearland, David Austin of Cat Spring, Gail Austin of Wharton, Aaron Austin of Calif., Peggy DeBolt and Patrice Roper of Houston, Denice Janow, Pam Hengst, Darrell and Duane Austin of Eagle Lake; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and loved ones. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 25, in the Dulany Funeral Home Chapel in Eagle Lake. Rev. David Mann, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Larry Bailey, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne L Corman, Vic Corman, Jr., Pat Mascheck, Billy Stiles, Ross Obenhaus and Pete Canaris.
