FANK BLAKEMORE DIES; HOME MUTUAL DIRECTOR
Frank P. Blakemore, 52, of 929 South Providence Rd., died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday [March 2] at Boone County Hospital.
Mr. Blakemore was born in Perth, Australia, June 23, 1915, the son of W. Barnett and Nell Porter Blakemore. He was married to the former Miss Lillian Stapel on Feb. 4, 1941 in Columbia.
He received a B. S. in Agriculture degree from the University in 1938. During World War II he was a naval aviator and was aboard the USS Augusta when President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill signed the Atlantic Charter in August, 1941.
Mr. Blakemore began his work as a field man with the Farmers Mutual Windstorm Insurance Co. in 1946. He became assistant secretary in 1952 and secretary in 1958. At the time of his death he was also director and assistant secretary of the Home Mutual Insurance Co., and director of the Farm Mutual Companies of Missouri.
Mr. Blakemore was active in civic affairs. He was an officer in the United Fund, chairman of the redevelopment Study Group, director of the Boone County Red Cross and past president of the Columbia Chapter of the National Office Management Assn. He was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church of which he was a past junior and senior warden and a past member of the vestry. He was a member of the Columbia Lions Club and Alpha Gamma Rho social fraternity. He held the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Frank Blakemore II, 1103 Jewell St. and John Stapel Blakemore, Detroit; one daughter, Penny Blakemore of the home; one sister, Miss Elizabeth Blakemore, Chicago and one brother, Dr. W. Barnett Blakemore Jr., Chicago.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Calvary Episcopal Church. The body is at the Memorial Funeral Home, but the family requests there be no visitations.
A memorial fund has been set up in his name and contributions may be sen to the Calvary Episcopal Church office.
