Son of Morris Malachi & Rachel Summerfield (SIMMONS) BOWDEN. Married first on 05 OCT 1887 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to Mary Annie WALLER, by whom he had at least three children and whom he divorced. Married second AUG 1916 to Willene HILL (no known issue).

Rick & Barb, Contributor #47520934, kindly provided the following item: "BOWDEN, Mr. Will, oldest son of Mr. M. M. "Ki" Bowden, formerly of Meriwether, was drowned off Tybee, near Savannah, last Sunday; with his father he removed to Flat Rock, Muscogee county, where he engaged in farming for many years; at the time of this writing his body has not been recovered;" Meriwether County [Georgia] Vindicator, Vol. 28, No. 38, August 24, 1900.

"MR. BOWDEN ALIVE; HE RETURNS HOME: Has Been in Richmond, Va. Says He is Surprised at the Reports of His Drowning. // Mr. W. O. BOWDEN, who was reported drowned at Tybee last August, turned up at his home in this county last night, safe and sound. He came down on last evening's Southern train from Atlanta, and was talked to by a number of Columbus gentlemen aboard. He stated that he had been ill several weeks in Richmond, Va. He said that he had not heard the report of his death until he reached Atlanta yesterday, en route to Muscogee county. . ." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Friday, 23 NOV 1900, p. 1.]

". . .Both families are well known throughout this section, Mr. BOWDEN being a member of a prominent old family of Muscogee county, where he has a number of relatives and friends who are horrified and deeply grieved as a result of the tragedy. // He was a man of portly appearance and bore the reputation of possessing more than ordinary intellect, usually congenial and friendly with all with whom he came in contact. // He is survived by three daughters, Misses Mary, Ruth and Hanna BOWDEN, all of whom live with their mother in this county, and who are held in highest esteem as has been evidenced by the many expressions of sympathy and condolence that have gone to them. Four sisters and five brothers also survive him. The sisters are J. T. WALLER, of Flat Rock; Mrs. A. T. REESE, of Flat Rock; Mrs. Jene CALLIER, of Talbotton and Miss Ida Bell BODWEN, of this county. The brothers who survive are Messrs. G. H. and S. K. BODWEN, of Columbus, and A. T., T. J., and M. M. BOWDEN, of Flat Rock. // The funeral services will be held at ten o'clock tomorrow at Pearce's chapel. Interment, it is expected, will be in the family burying ground at Pierce's Chapel, about ten miles north of the city." [Columbus (GA) Ledger newspaper, Friday, 03 NOV 1916, p. 1.]
