Irene was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Nelson.She was a teacher and was president emeritus of Brown Mackie College, Salina. The college library was named after her in 1988. She married Clarence William Carlson Nov. 29, 1934 and had a son, Leland. Irene is listed in "Who's Who of Women" and "Who's Who in Community Service"Irene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina. She died at the Bethany Home, in Lindsborg.
