Clarence was the youngest son of Eric and Lovisa (Nystrom) Johnson. At age of 9 months his mother left the family, so the youngest 2 were put in foster homes. Clarence was brought up by Gusta William Carlson and his wife Anna Nelson. At 21 he took their name. He was a assistant trainmaster for MO Pacific Railroad. Lived in Salina since 1937. Married Irene J. Nelson in 1934 and had a son, Leland.
