Clarence was brought up by Gusta William Carlson and his wife Anna Nelson. At 21 he took their name. He was a assistant trainmaster for MO Pacific Railroad. Lived in Salina since 1937. Married Irene J. Nelson in 1934 and had a son, Leland.
