He enlisted on October 1, 1861. He served with brothers: Capt. David W. Brinson (1840-1917), Simeon J. Brinson killed at Chickamauga, Georgia in September, 1863, William Jason Brinson, (1842-1915) and another brother Adam Mills Brinson served in the 22nd Georgia Infantry (1845-1933). Mills was mortally wounded at Franklin on November 30th and died in a Franklin Confederate Hospital on December 15, 1864.
