Wellington Leader January 26, 1978

Mrs. M.C. Cleveland died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, January 18. She had been in ill health about six years and entered the hospital January 8.

She was an active worker in First Christian Church, and a leader in its women's activities, which included the Christian Women's Council.

Mrs. Cleveland began working with the Home Demonstration Clubs about 50 years ago. She was especially active in each of the communities in which she lived where there was a club, but her greatest contributions came after the family moved to their home four and a half miles northeast of Wellington.

She was Texas Home Demonstration Association chairman for the county since 1942. For a number of years, she was an adult leader in 4-H Club work.

The former Iva Veda Baker, she was born November 17, 1894 at Vashti, Clay County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Baker.

She and Mr. Cleveland were married September 30, 1917 and they lived in Clay County until moving here in 1922. The family lived in Pleasant Point, Aberdeen and Wilnulcer communities before moving near Wellington. They had lived in Wellington since Mr. Cleveland retired from farming, about 30 years ago.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors are her husband, M.C. Cleveland, a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Rousser of Plainview; three grandchildren, Mrs. Glynell Durant of Plainview, Mrs. Mike (Marsha) Hughs of Desoto and Tommy Cleveland of Arlington; and 9 great-grandchildren.

A son, Solon Cleveland, preceded her in death in 1958 and two other children died as infants.
