Phyllis I. "Phyl" Crump, Galesburg Chapel
87, of Galesburg, died at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Seminary Manor.
She was born October 4, 1923 in Avon, Ill., the daughter of Merle and Helen Edmundson Gillette. She married Glen Hammond and years later she married Byron Crump. He precedes her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Glenna (and Jerry) Wiley of Fowler, Ill., three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, special friends, Barbara Wright and Bernadine Collis, both of Galesburg, and several nieces and nephews, including Rod Speidel of Bettendorf, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Hammond, a daughter, Shirley Ann Hammond, four brothers, and three sisters.
Phyl was a homemaker. She graduated from Avon High School. Phyl maintained membership in the United Methodist Church for 40 years and was a past Sunday school teacher. She had been active with 4-H.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
