Son of Anders Matthisson and Anna Jepsdotter, brother of Christine Anderson who passed away in 1940.

Emigrated to the U.S. in 1888, and settled in Racine, Wisconsin. Became a naturalized citizen in 1898 in Cook County, Illinois. Married Christine Johnson in 1902. Opened a steam laundry in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1904. Retired in 1920 and moved to Seattle.
