Reuben enlisted in Co. E. 29th Alabama Infantry on October 7, 1861 at Wilsonville, Alabama. He was promoted to 2nd Sgt on August 1, 1862. Wounded at Resaca, Georgia on May 14, 1864 he was sent to Ocmulgee Hospital in Macon, Georgia till June 5, 1864 when he was given a 30 Medical Furlough. He returned to his regiment on August 12, 1864.
