{According to records in my family research:...in this Preston's lineage, he should have been Preston Goforth, III...his father was Preston Goforth (Jr) 06-03-1739/10-07-1780 @ "Battle of Kings Mtn" md. to Nancy Elizabeth Potts, and his father was Preston Goforth 05-20-1714/1781 md. to Rachel Clements--but maybe they didn't do the offspring naming like this at that time. These are in my grandfather's maternal lineage. rht}

I'm pretty sure this is the correct place for the III to be buried because it is beside his correct wife, Mary Ann Beattie. Oftentimes, the ones who have stones made do not realize the correct information that should go on them.
