Louis Daniel McKenzie, 88, of Charlevoix, died Friday, February 11, 2011, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan. A funeral Mass will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 16, at Saint Mary's Church in Charlevoix. The Reverend James K. Gardiner will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 pm, at Saint Mary's Church concluding with a Scripture Service conducted by the Reverend Robert Nally at 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the spring at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Charelvoix. Louis was born January 19, 1923, in Charlevoix, the son of Colon and Olive (Lord) McKenzie. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1941, and then from the Detroit School of Photography. He served as a Sargent in the US Army Air Corps during WWllI, from 1942-46, and was stationed in Guam. On May 22, 1948, he married Betty Arsenault at Saint Benedict's Church in Highland Park. They made their home in Charlevoix, where Louis delivered fuel oil for Total Oil for twenty years. For ten years, he drove school bus for Charlevoix Public Schools. Louis was a lifetime member of Saint Mary's Church, and ushered for fifty years. He was past Commander of the American Legion, Leslie T. Shapton Post #226, Vice- Commander of the VF.W. Post #1153, and served on the board of the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging, and twenty-three years on the Charlevoix County Veterans Board. He was a charter member, fourth degree Knight, and served as Grand Knight of the Pierre de Charlevoix Council 7172, in Charlevoix. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Diane (Dan) Trowbridge of East Jordan, Dan (Laurie) McKenzie of Charlevoix, Dawn (Chuck) Mahoney, Dana Dickson, and David McKenzie all of Naples, Fla.; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild; sister, Maxine (George) Plumm of Charlevoix. Contributions may be made to Grandvue Medical Care Facility.
