Donald K. Anderson, 101, of Oil City, died peacefully at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.
He was born Feb. 5, 1910, in Pleasantville, the son of the late Ray and Helen Strang Anderson.
Don attended schools in Pleasantville and Oil City, and graduated from Oil City Senior High School in 1928.
During high school, Donald worked for a shoe store on Seneca Street and also for the railroad as a messenger. He also worked as a newspaper carrier for the Derrick and Blizzard.
After high school he worked for the Oil City National Bank and Wolf's Head Oil Refining Co. as a clerk, chief accountant, office manager and secretary of the Wolf's Head board of directors. He retired in 1962 from the company. He was a certified public accountant.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City.
He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, watching golf on TV, and reading. He was an avid walker until a few years ago. He would walk to work everyday. After retirement he could be seen walking from his home through downtown Oil City. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in West Hickory.
He was married Feb. 3, 1933, in Tionesta, to the late Jane Klingensmith. She died on April 7, 1996.
Don is survived by two sons and their spouses, Thomas R. Anderson and Mary Ellen of Meadville and Philip G. Anderson and Rina of Oil City; and five grandchildren, David Anderson and his wife, Jane, of Meadville, Todd Anderson and his wife, Mary Beth, of Mechanicsburg, Michael Anderson and his wife, Tammy, of Hanover, Timothy Anderson and his wife, Audrea, of Cambridge Springs and Trisha Lockhart and her husband, Jeffrey, of Oil City.
Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren, Martin Anderson, Emily Anderson, Madigan Anderson, Erin Anderson, Drake Anderson, Jack Anderson, Nicole Anderson, Amanda Rulong, Lauren Anderson, Jacob Anderson and Tyler Lockhart; one great-great grandson, Lucas Rulong.
He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his wife Jane, and a brother, Kenneth Anderson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Reinsel Funeral Home and Crematory in Oil City.
Funeral services will then be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Pete Knight of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville
