Earl Frank Strong was born in Miles City, Montana. He was the son of B. W. and Addie Strong. He graduated from Harvard College. He married Paula Mary Campbell (1889-1976) on Sept 20, 1911 in Roseburg, Oregon. They had two children, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Tethereau) (1915-1986) and Byron Wallace Strong (1918-1944). Byron was a Lt. in the United States Naval Air Force in WWII. He was killed in action 31, Jan. 1944.

The Strongs built a turkey business on the west part of the Campbell family's 1,500-acre ranch on Rice Hill, 21 miles north of Roseburg, OR. They retired to Roseburg.
