Mrs. Lydia L. Probst, wife of engineer A.N. Probst, of Elkhart, Ind., died at the home of her parents at Union, Mich., Wednesday, Feb. 17. The funeral which was held at the Baptist church on Friday, was attended by a large number of friends and relatives, among whom were those from Elkhart, Cassopolis, Williamsville and Grand Rapids. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful, the ladies of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen sending a beautiful piece in American beauty roses and carnations.

Mrs. Probst was born at Union, Mich., October 15, 1865, where she resided till 1895. After receiving a high school education she taught school for several terms and was married in 1895. In 1896 the family moved to Cassopolis where they resided nearly two years, and later to Elkhart, Ind., where the husband is now employed as engineer on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern railroad. It was while living here that she contracted that dreaded and fatal disease, consumption three years ago. She spent several months in Denver, Col., at different times in the hope of regaining her health but the best that medical skill, beautiful climate and willing hands could do was but a temporary relief and at best death claimed her. Cut down as a flower in all the freshness and brightness of womanhood, a devoted wife and a loving mother has gone to meet her makes, and like the flower that gives up its beauty and fragrance to the world about making life sweeter with its rich perfume so she has left to her little son and daughter that sweetness and influence that only a true mother can leave and which time can never blot out.
