LCPL Romo was killed in action in the Quang Nam Province of Vietnam in August 1969. A native of Borger, Texas, John Romo moved to Phoenix in 1955. He attended North High School and was employed by a local restaurant before joining the Marines in 1968. LCPL Romo was a rifleman with M Company of 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines in the 1st Marine Division and was awarded the Purple Heart.
