Sofia Jane Hurst Carter was born to William Ceil and Hattie Lutes Hurst on August 8, 1902.

She had three sisters - Bethene Hurst Bryant, Hattie Wilneta Hurst Bransford and Mary Hurst Kurosky.

The City Of Hurst Texas was named after her Grandfather William Letchworth Hurst.

Most everyone referred to her as Sofie.

Sofia was wed to James Bryon Carter and together they had five children - JB, Otis, Vivian Jane, WC "Bill", and Betty Sue.

She was a life-long homemaker and loved to cook for people and rarely removed her apron.

She loved to sing while cooking and working around the house, she loved gospel music and her favorite gospel group was The Stamps Quartet.

She went to Rosen Heights Baptist Church.

Sofia passed away of congestive heart failure on June 18, 1989.
