BENTLEYVILLE LAD DIES OF BROKEN BACK IN AUTO CRASH; John Caldwell, Son of S. F. Caldwell, Bentleyville Druggist, Dies in Monongahela Hospital After He Is Thrown From Wrecked Car – Was speeding on Way home With Pal
John Caldwell, aged 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley F. Caldwell of Bentleyville, was fatally injured last night at ---- o'clock on the Monongahela ---Run Road and the outskirts of that city when a ----delivery truck in which the boy was riding crashed into a ditch. Caldwell was thrown from the seat and sustained a broken back and internal hurts. He died at 11:20 o'clock in the Memorial hospital.
Caldwell was hurrying home with a companion. Tony Zumpetta, when the accident occurred. An approaching automobile's headlights is said to have blinded the driver and caused him to drive off the road. The machine was headed into a ditch after going over an embankment.
The boy was picked up and rushed to the hospital. His parents were then called and Mr. Caldwell, who conducts a drug store in Bentleyville and his son Richard, started for Monongahela. They were delayed somewhat when their machine ran out of gasoline near the Brown Filling Station on the Charleroi-Bentleyville road and arrived at the hospital after the boy's death occurred.
The body was removed to the McDonough Funeral Home at Beallsville today. Funeral services were being arranged this afternoon.
