M. Karl BURGESS M(erlin) Karl Burgess passed away peacefully at age 92 on May 1, 2009 at Evergreen Enumclaw Nursing Home, the residence where he had lived the past two years. Born in Roosevelt City, Utah on October 9, 1916, he was one of seven children and the last surviving member of his family. He attended the University of Utah majoring in law until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp at the age of 23. He served in World War II flying B26- airplanes in the Air Offensive in Europe and was awarded numerous medals and citations. In 1942 he married Helen Wiscombe also from Roosevelt, Utah, and they recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. After being honorably discharged from the Army Air Corp in 1945 he completed his law degree at the University of Utah. Moving to Seattle in the late 1940's to work for the State of Washington in the Department of Labor and industries, he later set up a private law practice in Seattle until he retired in the 1980's. Karl and Helen raised their children at the Mercer Island home. Karl's oldest son Bill (Zalinda) predeceased him. He leaves his wife, Helen; son, Frank R. Burgess (Nancy), daughter Kathryn B. Gardner (Ted), and son Martin E. Burgess (Joanne), together with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Tahoma National Cemetery.
