Elise Carlson, daughter of Carl P. and Hannah Alexanderson, was born July 3, 1893 in Knared, Sweden and died June 2, 1959 in Cherokee at the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 29 days after a four week illness.
As an infant she was baptized into the Lutheran faith and later was confirmed in that faith.
In March 1913 she came to America to keep house for her two brothers on a farm in the Quimby area, and later for four cousins known as the Swanson brothers of Paullina. In the spring of 1920 she returned for a visit with her parents in Sweden.
She was united in marriage to Gust Ahlgren on November 12, 1920. They became the parents of two children. They lived on farms near Quimby and for the last six years they had lived in the town of Quimby.
She had been a member of Carmel Lutheran Church at Marcus, later transferring her membership to Bethlehem Lutheran church, Cherokee.
In addition to her husband, Gust, she is survived by a son, Kenneth Ahlgren of Pensacola, Florida, and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Bernice) Hohbach of Marcus; three grandchildren, Marcia, Dennis, and Judy Hohbach. One sister, Ester Johnson of Quimby, and two brothers, August Carlson of Marcus, and Albert Carlson of Sweden. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother in Sweden.
Funeral services were held June 5 from Bethlehem Lutheran church. The Rev. Walter E. Lack officiated. Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee.
