Emeline Thayer was a deaf mute, but it is not known whether she was born deaf or whether she had a illness as an infant that left her deaf. A story within the family says that Emeline was visiting a brother one day and was told about a deaf mute farmer who lived just a couple miles away. His name was Robert Finley Hopkins. Emeline and Robert were married on August 1, 1867 at ___________, ___________. Emeline and Robert Finley Hopkins lived on the farm he established in Yates Township of McLean County. They had 2 daughters, both of whom were hearing. They were;
