Emma Mae Barber
Emma Mae Barber, 89, a longtime Hood River resident, died Sept. 15, 2009, at Parkhurst House.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at Idlewilde Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center.
Emma was born Sept. 3, 1920, in Pleasant View, Kansas, to Conrad and Emma (Goedke) Cooper. She was raised and educated in Kansas, coming to Mosier, Ore., in 1930. In 1941 she moved to Hood River.
She was married to Clarence Pendarvis, who died in 1979, and then Delbert Barber, who also preceded her in death.
Emma worked seasonally for Diamond Fruit for 10 years and then worked for Luhr Jensen until her retirement in 1980. She had also worked as a cook for Young's Steak House for several years.
Emma enjoyed baking, camping, gardening and traveling with her friend Mandy. She especially enjoyed preparing candy and baked goods for Christmas gifts.
Emma is survived by her daughters, Margaret ‘Marge' Edens and her husband, Jim, of Hood River, Melodee Snyder and her husband, Brad, of Vancouver, Wash., Darlene Flora, of Vancouver, Wash., and Clarissa Thomas and her husband, Leroy, of Ocean Park, Wash.; her son, Dean Barber, and his wife, Marsha, of Alabama; sister, Martha Hooker, and her husband, Kenneth, of Hermiston, Ore., and sisters-in-law Ralene Cooper and Geri Cooper.
Fourteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Clarence Pendarvis and Delbert Barber; son Richard Barber; sister Nellie Porth; and brothers Willard, Chuck and Alfred Cooper.
