Preston was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon Graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He enlisted on October 13, 1861 at Houston, Texas "for the war". On November 16, 1862 he was promoted to Jr. 2nd Lieut. On September 15, 1862 he was detailed at Regimental Post Master. On January 11, 1863 he was captured at Arkansas Post, Arkansas and exchanged in April, 1863. He served with his brothers, Lt. James Samuel Perry (1835-1918) and Sgt. Alvin Peter Perry (1844-1922). Bio by Tim Burgess
