Emma Rebecca Hughes, 73, of Waynesburg, R. D. 5, died at 10 a.m. Friday, April 18, 1949 in the University Hospital, Morgantown, after a short illness.

Born March 23, 1896, in Jackson Township, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Mary Belle Kinney Pethtel. Her husband, William A. Hughes, whom she married October 16, 1914, survives.

Also surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Darrell (Beatrice) Henderson, of Graden Hutten, Ohio; Mrs. John (Sylvia) Andrusky, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Glen (Bernice) Miller, of Sycamore, and Mrs. Myrle Shields, of Rogersville; 17 grandchldren and 23 great-grandchildren, and four sisters: Mrs. Samuel (Dora) McVay, Mrs. Floyd (Olive) Watson and Mrs. James (Thelma) McKnight, all of Washington, and Mrs. Orville (Cora) Sanders, of Hickory.

Four brothers and one sister are deceased.
