Caleb Clark was one of the earliest settlers of Charlotte Township, purchasing land in Township 4, Range 11, in 1824. (Source: "History of Chautauqua County, New York" - written by Andrew W. Young, published in 1875, revised in 1920.)

He was a Revolutionary Soldier in the "War of 1776", serving over two years in Captain James Norris' Company, Second New Hampshire Regiment, under Colonels Poor and Haley. He took part in the battles of Hubbardton, the second battle of Stillwater, and was at Monmouth. He was also in General Sullivan's expedition. Born in Newmarket, New Hampshire, he married Lodama Gage on February 28, 1784, in Exeter, NH. They moved from there with their family to Exeter, New York (about 1792) and then to Chautauqua County, settling in Charlotte Township about 1820. Caleb and Lodama had 12 children, 10 of whom lived to adulthood.
