According to the 1860 census, Benjamin and his family were living in Hillsborough County, FL. He was a Wheel Wright.

Received land grant for 80.55 acres on 7-1-1861. Enlisted as Sergeant 9-15-1861 in Company K FL 8th Infantry Regiment, Confederacy,Tampa, FL Discharged 2-23-1862.

Augusta married Addison Mansell, Columbus M. married Sarah Phillips, Amerintha married Asa Whitehurst. The rest of the children remained single with no children.
