Betty J. Mattila, 81, of Sauk Rapids, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids. She was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Breckenridge, Minn., to Henry and Minnie (Marks) Boelke.

She was married to Gilbert Engelhart on Feb. 23, 1950. He died on July 5, 1975. She married Thomas "Marvin" Mattila on Sept.. 17, 1978, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Babbitt. She moved to Sartell, Minn., in 1992 to be close to her grandchildren. She was a member of the Babbitt VFW Auxiliary, a member of their Color Guard, marching in many parades. She was a foster grandma in the Head Start Program in both Babbitt and St. Cloud, Minn. She enjoyed ceramics, bingo and growing flowers.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy Horsman; Kathy's fiancee, Carl Boeder; grandchildren, Scott, Megan and Cory Horsman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and brother, LeRoy Boelke.
