Marion J. Duty, Veteran of the Civil War, Dead.

The funeral of Capt. Marion Jasper Duty, aged Confederate veteran who died in the home of his niece, Mrs. D. H. Courtney, of Caspiana, La., Monday night at 11:30 o'clock after a continued illness, was held in Simsboro, La., this morning.

Mr. Duty is survived by a brother, one son, two daughters, one of whom is Mrs. Humble Zeagler, of Monroe, and two sisters.

Most of his life was spent in Monroe and West Monroe, where he was well and favorably known by a large circle of close friends and relatives.

Captain Duty distinguished himself during the Civil War as commander of one of the Confederate gunboats. He was recognized as a brave man, loyal and true to the traditions of the South and a good citizen.

During the administration of Governor Pleasant, Captain Duty was appointed custodian of the capitol building and discharged his duties faithfully. He was a member of the Masonic order. The remains were conveyed to Simsboro from Shreveport this morning, interment being made in the cemetery at that place.
