Mary Alice Lavering was born in Whitley Co., Columbia City, Ind., May 19, 1870*, and departed this life Dec. 23, 1929 at the age of 59 years, 7 months and 4 days.
At the age of 3 years, she moved with her parents to a farm near Delphos, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Edward McKain of near Miltonvale, February 7, 1889.
To this union were born 11 children: Ross, Glasco; Eugene, Jess, Everett, Delphos; Dellie, who died in infancy; Ernest, Jennie, Wesley, Virgil, Archie and Clyde of Delphos.
Besides her immediate family, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Lavering of Delphos, Kansas; four brothers, Everett, Long Beach, Calif., Clarence, Seattle, Wash.; Harvey, San Francisco, Calif.; Arthur, Delphos, Kansas. Two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Skinner, Longmont, Colo.; Mrs. Clara Briggs, Delphos, Kansas. Eleven grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
She was one of the first members of the Pipe Creek W.C.T.U.
Mrs. McKain was a devoted wife, a loving and patient mother. Though afflicted for many years, she was cheerful and kind.
Funeral services were held on Thursday morning of last week at the Delphos Methodist Church, in charge of Rev. Vielguth, assisted by Rev. Coates. Burial was made in the Delphos Cemetery.
