Mary Francis Gratzer Bush was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 3rd, 1921. Sports, competition, and her family were the loves of her life.

She obtained a Master's Degree in Physical Education from NYU and taught at William and Mary College and Mary Washington University, she served in the Navy for two years during WW II, and married a handsome young Captain in the Marine Corps, Clayton O. Bush.

Early stories of Mom's arrival in Bunker Hill, Kansas are legend in the Bush family annals. As their family grew, Mary and Clay raised six children on many Marine Corps bases across the country, finally at Camp Smith, Hawaii where Clay retired.

Moving to Colorado, they found their permanent home in Black Forest. Mary worked as a substitute teacher for District 11 for many years while continuing to raise and help support her six children through college.

She was extremely active in Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church as a youth educator and Eucharistic Minister where she made many lifelong friends; served for 14 years on the District 20 school board; and studied Catholic religion and theology with the Benedictine Sisters.

After Clay retired from teaching in Colorado Springs in District 11, they bought a travel camper and explored Colorado and, spent their winters on Oahu.

Mary is survived by her children: Barbara, Betty (Tom), Mary Dean, Mark (Cindy) and Bob (Ann); grandchildren: Brae, Kyle, Brandon and Jack; and great-granddaughter, Sydney. She was predeceased by her husband, Clay; their son, Clayton Robert; and their son-in-law, Bill Bullard.

A vigil for Mary will be held the evening of Wednesday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Black Forest with a viewing and rosary.

On Thursday, February 10th at 10:30 a.m. we will again gather at Our Lady of the Pines for a mass celebrating her life, followed by interment at the Eastonville Cemetery.

A meal hosted by Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church will follow. We ask you to join with us in celebrating the life of our wonderful mother and friend, Mary Bush.
