Maude Isabelle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Francis Jenkins, was born in Russell, Iowa, July 27, 1894.

She attended the Russell public schools and graduated from the Russell High School in May, 1911 at the age of 16. Awarded a scholarship, she then attended Simpson College in Liberal Arts during the years of 1911-1912, with special work in music. She was a member of the Simpson College women's glee club and also a member of one of the college debating teams.

The school year of 1912-1913, Miss Jenkins taught a rural school of 50 pupils in Wayne County and then attended Iowa State College the fall semester of 1913.

On March 5, 1914, at high noon in the home of her parents in Russell, Maude Isabelle Jenkins married Sterling Brandon Martin of Melrose. The vows were pronounced by the Rev. R. M. Shipman, pastor of the Russell Methodist Church.

To this union were born five children: Marion Mae, Mrs. Charles R. Henderson, of Ithaca, N.Y.; Sterling Brandon Martin Jr., of Ottumwa; David Francis Martin, of Princeton, N.J.; and identical twins, Ruth Eloise Hainline of Rock Island, Ill. and Ruth Eleanor Pickerell, deceased on February 12, 1955.

Farming in Lucas and Monroe Counties, Mr. and Mrs. Martin became charter members of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. When Mr. Martin served as County Agricultural Agent in Lucas County, March 1 1932 to March 1, 1941, Mrs. Martin was very active in the women's programs, especially the Farm Bureau women's choruses and the Girl's 4-H County Committee.

When Mr. Martin served as State Representitive in the 54th General Assembly, Mrs. Martin served as his clerk and for several years was a member of the Legislative Ladies League.

She was a member of the Methodist Church from early girlhood, first in Russell in Epworth League and choir, then in Chariton, women's circles and a member of the Chancel Choir well over 30 years.

She was also a member of the Young at Heart Group, a member of the Russell C.L. Club for 61 years and a member of the LaGrange Club for many years. She was a member of the Pioneer Club of the National Farm Institute and a member of the Iowa Master Farmers Club, the Lucas County Historical Society and the Lucas County Genealogical Society.

Besides the children named, Mrs. Martin leaves her husband, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and her niece, Mrs. Darlene Kluter, of Mesa, Ariz., and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Hermann, of Milwaukee, Wis. and many other relatives and friends.
