John was the eldest child of Martin and Mary "Polly" Coleman Money. He married Jinney Jarvis on Dec 7, 1886 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Their marriage produced four daughters: Cordia, Curlie, Pearl Mae, and Dora Mae.

Martin Money was the son of John and Lydia Austell Money. He married Polly Coleman on Feb. 15, 1852 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. On Mar. 20, 1862, he enlisted in Iredell County in Company E, North Carolina 54th Infantry Regiment. He and Polly passed away sometime between the 1900 and 1910 Federal Censuses.
