He was a life time member of VFW Post 1307 in Elgin. He was a member of the 75th Infantry Division Association. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He retired from Northern Illinois Gas Company after 37 years of employment.
He is survived by his wife Arlene whom which he wed on December 29, 1950; five sons, John (Mary) of Lake in the Hills, James of Algonquin, Jeffrey (Etta) of Round Lake Beach, Jerome of Elgin, Jayson (Janet) of Lake in the Hills; a daughter, Janice Cheney of LeHigh Acres, FL; 13 grandchildren; and a brother Robert of Long Beach, CA
Besides his parents John and Theresa "Fitzgerald" Cheney, he was preceded in death by two half-sisters Patricia "Cheney" Walsh and Jane "Cheney" Cadwall.
Services will be at 10am Tuesday at Community Funeral Home, East Dundee. Burial will be in River Memorial Gardens, West Dundee, IL
Visitation will be 5-9pm Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to East Dundee Fire Department Paramedics or St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
