Elizabeth Wendell was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Hunt) Wendell of Boston, Massechusettes. It was there that she married Rev. Peter Thather Smith on October 8, 1765. The marriage was performed in the Old South Church in Boston by the pastor, the Reverend Dr. Sewell. They made their home in Windham, ME in what is known today as the Parson Smith House. Elizabeth, mother of the Parson's eleven children, died on October 16, 1799.

She is buried in the family tomb with her husband.
