BOWERS, Arleen R. age 86, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Kettering Medical Center. Born in Buffalo, New York, at an early age she accompanied her parents to Panama where her father worked for the U.S. Panama Railroad. Except for a short time during World War II, when U.S. children were evacuated from the U.S. Canal Zone in anticipation of a Japanese invasion, she lived there until she met her husband of 65 years, Major General Verne L. Bowers, U.S. Army, Retired. She accompanied her husband on tours in Paris and Germany, and lived several years in Alexandria, Virginia while her husband served in the Pentagon. Following Verne's retirement, they traveled extensively, especially by cruising, visiting most parts of the world, including safaris in Africa, a trip through the Australian Outback, a boat trip on the Nile, and visits to Korea and Vietnam where Verne had wartime service. She was a long time Red Cross Volunteer.

She is survived by her loving husband, Verne; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ric Hancock; son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Meredith Bowers; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
