Married Guro Nilsdatter (1792-1843), in 1814. She and most of their children died in Norway. He came to America in 1844 with his three remaining sons: Jorgen, Gunder, & Niels. Was known as Neri Gunderson in the U.S., but in Norway had been Naere Gunnarson Skomedal, son of Gunnar Neresen Skomedal (1749 - 1810). He had lived in the Bjorkevodden division of the Skomedal farm in Aust-Agder, on the west side of Byglandsfjord. In America, he settled and farmed in the Norwegian Grove area of Sibley County, Minnesota, directly east of what is now the Norwegian Grove Lutheran cemetery. He and his sons were co-founders of the Norseland Lutheran congregation in 1858.

Gravesite Details

Grave is unmarked, or possibly in the trees behind the present cemetery, where other pioneer graves puportedly may be. The graves could have been moved at one time.
