Some uncertainty as to year of birth, and even as to whether she was an Olson or a Johnson. Her father was Ole Olson, and in Norway her name would have been Anna Olesdatter. In America, this would be "translated" to Olson. Church records have both surnames. Available records don't show that she necessarily came over from Norway on the same ship as her husband, or if they were even married yet. Her husband, Jorgen, is buried at Norseland Lutheran Cemetery because the Norwegian Grove congregation didn't exist at the time of his death. On his gravestone, the surname is spelled 'Nerisen.' In 1881, the year after he died, Norwegian Grove Lutheran was organized at Anna's home and the congregation met there until a church building could be built in 1884. It was originally located on the southeast edge of Norwegian Grove cemetery and the Nereson farm was directly across the road. The daughter of Anna and Jorgen, also named Anna, married Ole Foss in the first wedding conducted in the new Norwegian Grove congregation (1881). The former Nereson farm then passed to them.
