He was born Aug. 19, 1972, in Fort Bragg, Calif. He died as the result of a fire-fighting accident on Nov. 25, 2002, in Coos Bay.
On November 25, 2002 the city of Coos Bay Oregon suffered a tragic loss when three of their local firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty. Randy Carpenter, Jeff Common, and Chuck Hanners all gave their lives as heroes serving their community while fighting a fire in an Auto parts store when the roof of the auto parts store collapsed.

Jeff was a tug boat captain and a volunteer fireman for Coos Bay, Oregon. He died in a fire, along with 2 of his crew mates, in Coos Bay, Oregon. He was a wonderful friend and father. He left behind a daughter, Taylor Ann Common, and twin sons, Bailey Hunter Common and Brysen Sidney Common.
