Mary NEWSOM married 03 JUN 1829 in Greene County, Georgia, to Wilborn ELEY. Mary EALY married 22 DEC 1844 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to John ODOM (Martin's "The Making of a Modern City: Columbus, Georgia, 1827-1865," originally pub. 1874, Vol. I, p. 154).
This grave was missed during the June Hanna survey in 1982. Initially the head stone was found, laid flat, under an accumulation of leaves and other vegetative debris. The marble head tablet (broken off at grade and in two pieces) reads: "In Memory of / Mrs. Mary B. ODOM / who died / Aug. 7th 1868 in the 58th year of her age / Her memory will ever [?] be enshrined in the hearts of her children."
Marble footstone: "M. B. O." - was buried nearby but is fitted with two iron pins (one missing) that insert into dowell holes on a marble ledger. This ledger was discovered buried under about 10" of soil & debris and is overgrown by several substantial roots of an adjacent large tree (hickory?).
