Pvt. William Gabriel Adcock was attached to both "1st (Colm's) Battalion Tennessee Infantry/ Company C" & "50th Tennessee (Consolidated) Infantry Regiment/ Company K". He was recruited by his sibling/brother Capt. Perry Adcock on Dec.10,1861 in Dekalb County, Tn. at Titsworth's Store. (Capt. Perry Adcock Tennessee Volunteer Co. which subsequently became "Company C". ) Sworn into the Confederacy on Jan. 21,1862 by Capt. O'Hara in Nashville, Tennessee.
Captured at Fort Donelson and taken as a POW , along with the entire battalion. They were held at Camp Morton, Ind. He is documented on two archived "Roll of Prisoners of War" dated June 1862 & Aug 27,1862. Documented as an "exchanged prisoner" Sept. 10,1862.
Documented as "captured by the enemy at Holly Springs" on the company muster roll in Nov. 1,1862.
Documented as registered at St. Marys Hospital in La Grange, Ga for surgery on Sept. 20,1863. He is registered for the month of October 1863. Wounds are noted as "gun shot wound (flesh) both thighs" & "in hospital". He was received at this hospital on the day of Sept. 20,1863, the last day of the battle of Chickamauga which his battalion participated, so it is easy to assume that he was "likely" wounded at this battle.
His battalion was consolidated with the "50th Tennessee Infantry Regiment" to form the "50th Tennessee (Consolidated) Infantry Regiment". William is now assigned to Capt. Newton J. Thompson's "company K", which was a consolidation of "C" and "D" 1st Battalion. They were placed in Brig. Gen. George Maney's Brigade. As part of Maney's Brigade, his unit participated in the rest of the campaigns of the "Army of Tennessee", which is ultimately how William finds himself at the Battle of Franklin.
