The 3rd Tennessee was organized in Giles County 16 May 1861. Nashville, Bowling Green. At Fort Donelson they surrendered 16 Feb 1862, and were taken to Camp Douglas Ill. In the summer of 1862, what was left of the men were taken down the Mississippi River and paroled and exchanged at Vicksburg. Chickasaw Bayou, Raymond Miss., Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Resaca, New Hope Church, Jonesboro. They were paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, on May 1, 1865.Co F 3rd Tennessee Infantry

The 3rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment was organized at Lynnville Station in Giles County, Tennessee, on 16 May 1861. Nashville, at Fort Donelson, the regiment surrendered on 16 Feb 1862. Privates were taken by steamboat to Camp Douglas, Illinois. After 7 months of incarceration by the North, they were taken down the Mississippi River for exchange. They were paroled at Vicksburg 23 Sep 1862. Raymond, surrender at Vicksburg 4 Jul 1863. Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta campaign, including Jonesboro. They were paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, on 1 May 1865.
