The Rappahannock Valley, Va Medical Society held its annual meeting at Fredericksburg, Virginia, March 27 1902 and elected Dr. James Edward Tompkins as president.
Dr. James Edward Tompkins:
One of Fredericksburg's most prominent practicing physicians and surgeons, died at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Baltimore, November 18, 1908. He was born in Spotsylvania county, Va., November 24, 1867; took the degree of Bachelor of Arts at Richmond College in 1888, and graduated in medicine from the University of Maryland in 1891.
He was a deacon in the Baptist church and held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother, widow and several children. Interment took place in the Confederate Cemetery at Fredericksburg.
The Tompkins-Martin Medical Plaza on the Mary Washington Campus in Fredericksburg, Virginia was named for Dr. Tompkins and Dr. Martin.
